I really want to upgrade my windows 7 32 bit to 64 bit. but im unsure, im worried if it will erase all my data. my question is:

1. will it erase my data on local disk c and d?

2. can i install it in my external harddisk and will it erase my data from local c and d?

3. how much space will it take?

4. can i extend my local disk c partition from my external harddisk?

anyways, here's my system specs.

Pentium Dual Core E5200 2.5ghz
Nvidia Geforce GT630
3gb ram
Windows 7 Professional 32-bit

You can't install Windows on an external drive, it's against the user agreement and if you try it won't let you.

If you only have 3 gig of RAM why are you bothering installing 64 bit Windows? There is pretty much 0 benefit to having a 64 bit OS on a system with 4 gig or less of RAM.

If you get over 4 gig of RAM for your system, I'd just get a new hard drive, install Windows on that and keep your existing drive for backups.
Yes it will erase your data it's a new install there's no "upgrade path" you wipe and install as far as i'm aware
2 i can't answer, i wouldn't install an OS in the external disk only on an SSD if needed
3 not much more than 32 bit
4 i didn't understand the question

1. It won't erase your data unless you reformat the partition when you're installing Windows. It will erase your settings for Windows, but no data. (Files, documents, etc.)

2. You can install it on an external drive. It won't erase your data from both drives, unless you tell it to reformat.

3. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=how+much+space+does+windows+7+64-bit+take

4. To my knowledge, you can't extend a partition on one hard-drive with the unallocated space from another drive.

Basically, just watch for anywhere that it asks you to reformat. This is what will wipe the drive.

i'd like to upgrade to windows 7 64 bit cuz most games doesnt work on 32-bit nowadays. sorry for my bad english tho... and for number 4. what i was trying to say was..
My local disk c has a really small space. so i need to extend it, can i extend the space by shrinking my external harddrive using partition tool and use the unallocated space?

For me swapping OS means to start over, i've heard there's no such thing as pgrading from 32bit to 64bit it has to be a fresh install, i always just save the most absolutely essential files of my PC and wipe the rest, everything can be held online these days

Well....i installed most of my games in my Ext HDD, does it mean if i upgrade to 64-bit, i wont lose my games on the ext hdd? do i need to re install? or just plug in my ext hdd to make the games appear again?

You need to re-install the programs since the registry and other file changes programs need to run get installed on the C:\ drive. There are a few programs that work without re-installing many parts, but those are rare. You can backup your Steam library to prevent re-downloading everything although the game will likely need to run the setup again, I know WOW you can copy the directory out and it will run after a bit of a download.
