NEED HELP! Accidentally Merged Downloads folder with Hard Drive...

I've tried to relocate my Downloads user folder over from my SSD to a 2TB Hard Drive. I accidentally relocated it directly to D://, and it appears to have DUMPED all of my downloads there.

Then, I see a D:// drive in my personal User Files, and in properties it looks like the PC is recognizing the object as both the Downloads folder and a Hard Drive.

What can I do to separate the two, without wiping memory off my Hard Drive? (If I try to relocate, it prompts me to move ALL my data from the 2TB drive, a load my SSD cannot handle)

Cut & Paste?

Most programs allow you to choose where you want to set your download location, why not just choose your storage drive?

If you are using windows 7 or Vista, the HDD D:\ will be treated as the "downloads library". To fix this you will have to firstly create a new "downloads" folder on your "D" drive. Then go to the downloads library that currently exists and add you new "downloads" folder to the included folders, and remove the "D" drive from this included folder. This is accessed by right clicking on the downloads library and selecting "properties".

After that you will have to manually copy over your files from the "D:\" root folder to the new downloads folder you created.

I can't seem to get the Hard Drive to disappear from my User folder.... If I try to relocate it, it already appears as "D://", yet there is an identical drive in my user folder..

OH, I see now. When I restore the default location of the Downloads folder, it PROMPTS me for permission to move all files. I Just said no, and so the hard drive didn't start transferring all of its information. It's back where it belongs.

Hi Omegador, I have exactly the same problem, but I don´t quite understand what you did to solve it. Could you explain it please? When you say "When I restore the default location of the Downloads folder" which one are you refering to? since D is now turned into Downloads. I´m also very afraid to delete D.

Umm, I forgot what I did now that you mention in, but what you MUST try to do is unlink the downloads folder as one of the responders indicated, and then just dragging the folder to the D drive once you're done.
Play around with it, and don't worry about messing it up. It worked out for me in the end.
