My computer parts have arrived. Boy do they look good or what. I got the 1.2 retail AXIA one with (I think) multiplier unlocked. The retail HSF look similar to the FOP32 I saw the other day except for the fan. But they both come with thermal pad which as I heard is useless.
My questions are, do I just take the thermal pad off with a screwdriver or something? Wouldn't that damage the bottom of the heatsink? I forgot to get thermal paste, so should I go get a noname thing? Does it come off if I wanted to change the heatsink?
Thanks.

a putty knife should worl better and the take some nail polish remover and that should get and little left over parts off

Don't use a knife that could really groove the surface.
I agree with Crashman's idea of using detergent... and a
little steel wool makes it easy too.

Thanks.
Does the brand of the thermal paste mattter? I can't find arctic silver here so I guess I have to settle for anything.

From what I've heard, Arctic silver II is only a little better than ordinay paste,(2-3c) if any... Arctic silver is hard to find in stores and it costs about $8 for 3 grams (3g is plenty) and can be found on-line. On the other hand, Radio shack has a small tube of thermal paste
for like 2-3 bucks and it works pretty darn good.
