Rebuilt my computer into a new case that has better air flow, started to see how far I could push my 290x. Messed with the memory clock speed in CCC and now my computer just has a black screen, if I restart it it will boot normally, go to desktop for 5 seconds then black screen again. I've tried
- deleting the catalyst control center and reinstalling
- restoring factory defaults in CCC while the card was unplugged
- restoring computer to an earlier point which still causes the same problem (yes I'm restoring to a point before I was messing around)
Any suggestions on what to do would be appericated.
Thanks

Looking around, I found this thread, it's almost exactly what happened to mine.

I was afraid of that. I think you are going to have to buy a cheap graphics card that you can run along side your 270x. You can set that card as your primary in your bios then boot into Windows normal so you can get into the CCC. This is the only thing I can think of.

AX1500I, brand new. The GPU still works. I didn't push more power to it, I raised the power limit and clock settings and had no trouble but when I changed memory speed it caused the problem.

It doesn't do it in safe mode, I can't change any of the card settings because I can't open catalyst control center, but I can try changing the screen resolution in the normal right click menu if that's what you're referring to.

[Edit] Changing the screen resolution did nothing. Tried putting CCC into startup but it doesn't come up fast enough for me to have the chance to change anything. If I could see the screen without the screen I could change the settings.

Hmm try uninstalling the CCC in safemode and see if that will let you boot normally.

[Edit]

My first guess was the settings were being store in the card and that by booting in safemode you would run at a lower resolution that would need less memory allowing you in but you said you reset the resolution and it is still not working in a regular boot. The one thing that is different with a safemode boot is it does not load any thing so maybe it could be the CCC that is causing the problem. I though for sure resting the resolution would fix it.

If you have another Graphics card you could try installing it along side your 270x just so you can get in to CCC and reset the settings for the 270x. Other wise I am at a loss. Sorry.

Tried that, CCC remembers it's settings even after uninstalling and reinstalling.

I have a 290x now. I do however had a couple 6770s in my closest, I don't think they'll run with the 290x though. I could give it a try if that's the only thing you can think of, I thought of it as well but wasn't sure how to go about doing.

It worked! thank you for the help!
