I bought a MSI GE60 Apache Pro the specs are listed on my profile if you need to know more. So I voided the warranty immediately to install the SSD and haven't been able to take advantage of it yet which is greatly disappointing. The msata drive is a 256GB Samsung EVO SSD and I used Samsung's cloning software to clone my HDD to the SSD, I don't know if there is a better program yall can recommend or if that one is fine. But I cloned the hard drive just fine as far as I can tell and then I reboot and go into the bios and I can only select Boot from hard drive it does not specify which one. Then through watching you tube videos there is another option in the bios that is supposed to let me pick one and in the videos it works it shows 2 different drives but when I do it they both just say windows boot manager. I tried picking the 2nd windows boot manager assuming that would be the ssd and windows wouldn't load when I rebooted the circle thing just spun and spun so I figure that is not it because I tried it again to try and trouble shoot it.

I can normally figure things out if I keep playing with it but this has got me stumped so I need help from you guys are the best THANK YOU in advance and if any screen shots are needed let me know ill do whatever it takes to clone it and not have to do a fresh install because there are to many drivers to hunt down MSI website does not have up to date drivers and you have to hunt them down and there are quite a few msi and intel specific programs needed to optimize the laptop.

Also I almost forgot I called Samsung trying to get help and the guy I spoke to said I have to update the bios which I did and it didn't work. so like I said and screen shots or need any more info don't hesitate I'm on a mission to figure this out.

UPDATE:
Ive tried doing a fresh install of windows on the ssd and removing the hdd and it just goes to the Bios and wont boot windows.

So then I gave up cloning and created a back up of Windows and created a Bootable Flash drive. Then Used a special program to format and merge all the hidden recovery partitons on the HDD and then I installed windows on the SSD it booted to a fresh install of windows I thought I had it at this point so I restarted the laptop and it would only go to the bios.
So I tried it again and I restored windows from the back up and it all went back on the hdd instead of the ssd. So I tried this about 4 or 5 times. Then I went into options the last time I tried it and when I was restoring the back up I selected exclude drives and picked the hdd and it gave me an error and wouldn't let me.

I am totally stumped I have installed at least 100 ssd's with no problem I fix and build computers for people. This is my 3rd forum Ive tried with no solutions I hope I will get it here. Right now I feel like I wasted $200 on a ssd that I can't even use properly its really upsetting.

If you need any more information just ask I will respond right away. I'm constantly monitoring the forums I am desperate for an answer.

I don't know what I did but know there is only one option under BBS select drive when you can see in the previous picture there was 2 even tho they were both labled the same. i have tried reseting Bios options to default Ive also Updated the bios.

Then some one told me to disable UEFI and I don't have an option to.

That's one of the problems is that I can't select the ssd anywhere it is not showing up in the Bios even the Hdd is not name it only says windows boot manger under BBS drive select and boot order it says hard drive doesn't let me pick.
Here is picture of secure boot options I found give me instructions on what to do.

When I select custom I get an option for keys and this is that menu when I select it.

windows 8.1 its 1tb I don't know the brand I think its a generic because when I look it up its just a Bbunch of numbers and currently there is 161Gb of data. I think that is irrelevant because I can't select it in the bios and it won't boot if I take out the HDD with a fresh install of windows on the SSD. But if you think you can help I will give you any info you need.

Mind you I don't know if you read this all, this is in my laptop.

No you can't see any of it look at the pictures I posted.

I actually called Samsung's technical support and they just told me I need to update the bios which I did. But like I said where its supposed to list the harddrives it just says windows boot manager and there was 2 to select from and they both said windows boot manager and for some reason now there is only 1. I gave up on cloning because that's not the problem its will be easier to figure out how to get the drive recognized and just restore from the back up I made. In the bios you cant even see the HDD it just says windows boot manager.

Also it shouldn't be dead. It is brand new I know it is possible to get a defective one I just don't under stand. I think it is a software based problem I don't know I really need help tho.

When both HDD and SSD are installed will the laptop boot into Windows (via the HDD)?

Assuming, the answer is yes... Does the SSD show up as an available drive so that you want write data to it and it does actually allow you to write data? If the answer is yes, then the SSD should be fine.

The link below is a tutorial on how to install a mSATA SSD drive. What's important about the tutorial is that it uses a program call EasyBCD (free for personal use and linked below) that allows you within Windows to set the drive you wish to boot from. Try cloning the C: Drive once again and of course make sure your C: Drive does not contain more data than can be stored on the mSATA SSD. The guide does it with Macrium Reflect (I use it to make backup images of my C: drive). You will also need to edit the Windows Registry, but there are instructions for that as well; basically to change the drive letter and other partitions on the hard drive to a lower drive letter that the SSD is using.

Hopefully, this will work out for because I can't think of any other solution unless MSI releases a better BIOS.

Yes to both it will boot with both installed and I can store files on it I will try your link in a min. Thank you, that's is the closest to some one suggesting a possible solution I will let you know as soon as possible if it worked or not.
