I am currently building a pc with a Gigabyte Z97X-SLI motherboard, Intel i5 4690k processor, Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 memory, and a GTX970 video card. I've gotten the motherboard, processor, and memory installed to the point that I can power up the system and get one short beep. When I install the video card and try to power up again, the system blinks and then immediately shuts back down. Having trouble identifying the problem, have tried completely building the system over again to make sure nothing is shorting the motherboard, etc.

with some mb and gpu there can be bios issue. when a mb is shipped to you depending on when it was made it could have bios that 6-7 months old. with the gpu out and posting to onboard video check to see if you have the newest f8 bios. if it older then f8 download the bios and unzip it to a usb stick. plug the usb stick in and boot to the bios..in the main screen will be a tab for bios updating. click it and point the bios updater to the usb stick.

That's what I've been leaning toward. I didn't do enough research going into building this and didn't realize until I've started reading up since then that it's not very good.
