Hello there,

Let's start with the basics/specs:

- 1070ti/8700K/16GB
- what for? Gaming, browsing, some work in Indesign/Photoshop/Illustrator, watching Youtube, rarely a movie. What games? Nothing that requires super-duper levels of performance, like CS:GO. I think the only shooter I "play" is Destiny 2, which will stop soon, as I am not paying more money to Bungie after I already gave 90USD. I like RPGs, if there's stuff like Deus Ex, Dragon Age, Mass Effect (not that the last ones were any good), I'll probably play that stuff.
- budget - is a little tricky, because where I live I don't have real access to Ebay/Newegg and stuff. I will buy from a local store, pcgarage.ro, 99%, or emag.ro, mostly because I want the easy warranty. I have had way too many bad experiences with electronics to take risks. But 250-400USD or so - although I would LOVE to avoid spending that much.
- do I want G Sync? Sure, but I don't think I have the money for it. IS it THAT good? I see plenty of issues with it in forums. Unsure if it's worth the money to be honest.
- distance from monitor: should be about 80-130cm, depending if I lay on my back. I've seen some stands that would reduce this with 30cms or so.

So from my "calculations", I would either get to buy a 144Hz 1080p panel, or a 1440p@60Hz or something. Seen cheap 4K panels, but with my 1070ti should be pretty much out of question for new games, and it will be at least a year until I buy another card. I somehow doubt that Turing will have something half-affordable that can run AAA @4k. There's also the ultra-wide choice, that could prove amazing for working, although.. I'm not working that much at home these days, and their prices seem high.

Disclaimer: I have never played games on high refresh monitors. Or 4K monitors. I have professional Iiyama monitors at work, but that's for pre-print, not gaming, plus they are on Macs. At home I never needed or had anything above the usual 1080p@60Hz, and even that was plenty, I've had photos worked on that barely required any color retouching after I brought them to work, on a cheap TN panel. So I don't really know what to expect to be honest.

What I've set eyes upon: Samsung QLED 24" 1080p, VA, Quantum Dot, I'm sure you guys know these series. There are 2 possibilities:
- FG73, 380USD
- FG70, older I think, 305USD, this seems pretty heavily reduced

Are there any great monitors that I should check? I can only buy one next week, but I though it would be smart to make up my mind over the weekend to expedite the process. Just leave any monitor names you think are worthy here and I'll look them up, see at what price I can find them in my country.

Thanks!

Samung S32D850 Business class monitor. 32"16:9 1440p 60hz VA panel

Good colour reproduction, great blacks. No problems with colour & brightness uniformity, IPS glow, backlight bleed, bad pixels , gysnc issues, banding scanlines, etc etc etc etc.
If anyone can find a decent 1440p gaming monitor please let me know. You find numerous reports of people trying 4x predator monitors before finding one thats acceptable. It seems high refresh panels need more time to mature.
I personally saw asus monitor RMAs and wouldnt touch them. (unfortunately samsung has got it in their heads to release alot of non -ultrawide curved monitors. Dont get curved unless you going with large 21:9)

I care about picture quality. Gaming is superb, its suitable for most content (vs 21:9), and 0 DPI scaling issues. Same DPI as 24" @ 1080p. All software designed to work with it.

Do not go 4k. focus on fluent 1440p.

more screen area too.

Thanks for the answer!

I think it's very big for my needs and usual 1m distance from the monitor. 24" was already good, anything above is a bonus. Productivity is my second goal, my time home is spent like 70% reading/browsing, 20% gaming, 10% working, although when I have big projects it changes to 100% working for a few days, but then usually I have weeks of very light work afterwards. The price is also almost twice as much as the 24" VA panels I listed, and I don't want to pay that much just for 1440p and a 32" which I don't need at all.

Any other opinions? aybe about those 2 panels I listed? Are they good? Anyone with a direct experience with them?

Twice price? its $380 - $389 US, they even sell it from walmart. amazon newegg etc.
1m perfect. Im at 80cm-1m.

24"? i thought you meant 27". 24" is last decade and small. We only talking these sizes because weve been limited by technology. Ask a child what a proper tv size should be. (way bigger than what we thought we needed 20 years ago)
From the fishbowls weve grown up with our ideas have been molded and constrained.

If you pay the same for a 24" as this professional 32", its madness.

From my first post:

- budget - is a little tricky, because where I live I don't have real access to Ebay/Newegg and stuff. I will buy from a local store, pcgarage.ro, 99%, or emag.ro, mostly because I want the easy warranty.

I can't buy from Newegg/Amazon. I HAVE to buy from a Romanian store, and I HAVE to accept their prices, which are the usual EU crap, well above what US has. Even if I'd buy from Newegg, I'd have to pay a lot on transport/taxes, and if the product is defective/breaks, even more on RMA. Here I can send it back for free.

PS: the 24" is roughly half the price of the 32" you've linked, where I live. I also fear I don't even have space for a 32" on my desktop, it's rather crowded here, and I can't put anything on the floor, because of well, having pets that don't have respect for electronics, if you know what I mean.

I could still use some suggestions, if possible. The next 2-3 days I'm gonna get the money and order.

So, any decent quality panels up to 350-400USD that I can both game and work on? 8700K+1070ti. Work is Indesign/Photoshop/Illustrator. Color accuracy is not that important, everything that I work on at home I will double check at work on our prepress calibrated monitors, but yeah, the less work I will have to do at work the better.

Thanks.

Remained with the Quantum Dot VA CFG73 from Samsung. Found at 298USD.

The VA glow is basically non-existent and the dreaded purple artifacts are also not here. No fabrication defects like dead pixels. Very happy with it. The 144 Hz are well, visible, but it's not such a game changer as some Youtubers might suggest. Colors are great. The curve is a bit awkward at first. The OSD has lots of options and I love the joystick instead of lots of buttons.
