I have a Netgear Wireless Cable Modem Gateway CGD24G, which we will call Router1. Basically, it's a modem, router, and wireless router all in one. It is hooked up to a cable that goes into the wall and connects to the ISP (Time Warner). Also, it is plugged up to an ethernet cable, which is plugged into Computer1; that is how Computer1 receives internet. In addition, it is wirelessly connected to Computer2, which uses a Netgear WNA3100 Wireless Adapter. Both Computer1 and Computer2 are on the same network, which we will call Network1.
I want to buy a wireless access point, which we will call Access-Point. Put the Access-Point next to Computer2. Take out the wireless adapter from Computer2. Plug in an ethernet cable going from the Access-Point to Computer2. Wirelessly connect the Access-Point to Router1.
Hopefully I should be able to connect to Network1 from both computers without physically connecting Router1 and the Access-Point. I know the is possible, but how do I do it? What do I need? What requirements should Router1 have to support the wireless Access-Point?
Please help, this is as simple as I can put my situation. Try to talk to me as a noob, because really I am at networking.
