Hey everyone, I need help choosing a new graphics card to upgrade my gaming pc. I currently have EVGA gtx 1070 FTW edition with a i7 6700k at stock speeds, and I was wondering what would be a better upgrade for me.

The EVGA 1080 FTW edition on newegg is currently $1199.99 where as the MSI RTX 2080 Ventus is only $899.99.

I only really have a desire to play at 1080p while getting a steady 144fps on most games, ive read the 2080 is better and currently it’s less money, I was wondering if it would bottleneck my system for 1080p gaming and which one would be the better choice?

1080: https://www.newegg.ca/evga-geforce-gtx-1080-08g-p4-6286-kr/p/N82E16814487245

2080: https://www.newegg.ca/msi-geforce-rtx-2080-rtx-2080-ventus-8g/p/N82E16814137375

Your 6700K/1070 should be able to handle most games at 1080P but for 144hz you may need to adjust some settings to keep them stable.

As long as the CPU has a good aftermarket cooler and your on either a Z170/Z270 motherboard I'd highly recommend overclocking that CPU as far as it will safely go.

(Everything you need to know about overclocking)

Between those two the 2080 is the better GPU, better performance and much better price.

Thank you, I haven’t ever overclocked my CPU before so it’ll be a first for me, however I’ll give it a try and I’m definitely thinking the 2080 is a better choice

And my motherboard is a z170

It is.

I would really give overclocking the CPU a try first as even if you get the 2080 your still going to want that 6700K performing as good as it can but I really think with the overclock and tweaking some of the graphic settings you should be able to get close to 144hz without having to spend that kind of money.

Yeah I will, when I get home I’ll try to learn the whole overclocking process in try to get that sorted out and hopefully get the beet FPS out of the computer as it is. Thank you!
