I personally bought 2 24inch curved samsung monitors, cost me £300 and very happy with them
with a 7700K & 1080 ti, 1440p @ 144hz will be great
technically, you'll get more frames at 1080p, but that CPU & GPU is pure overkill for 1080p gaming
What's your budget and preferred monitor size?
How is the CPU overkill on 1080p, yet not on 1440p? It will have the same potential performance no matter the resolution. Quality of resolution is purely dependant on the GPU.

overkill as in why only game at 1080p when the system is more than capable of running at higher resolution
If someone asked for build suggestions for gaming at 1080p ONLY, then a 1080ti is a complete waste of money
'same potential performance no matter the resolution' <- not true
The amount of frames a 1080ti will generate @ 1080p means the CPU has to do more computations to keep up
I was suggesting the CPU has the same potential performance no matter the resolution. I said 'potential' because the GPU, like I think you were mentioning, may limit it. A CPU that can perform 140FPS in x game at 1080p can also perform 140FPS at x game at 4k, as long as the GPU can cope with.
If anything, at 1080p a better CPU would be even more necessary as the GPU has the potential to draw more FPS than it could at 1440p.
