Hi all,
I'm building a new Linux desktop server. So far:
■ ASUS P6T LGA 1366 Intel X58
■ Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor
■ CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W
■ CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
■ Apevia X-Cruiser Thermally Advantaged Case - Silver
■ XIGMATEK Intel Core i7 compatible Dark Knight-S1283V 120mm Long Life Bearing CPU Cooler
Last thing to purchase is a video card.
■ As I mentioned, this will mainly be a Linux desktop server.
■ I do plan on some gaming under Linux / wine.
■ I'll be using this computer extensively for FFT, Monte Carlo simulations, stock market correlations, and other areas of computational finance. I'd like to investigate doing my calculations on the GPU (GPGPU / CUDA).
■ Lastly, I'd like to be able to display movie files (e.g. avi) on my living room TV set.
■ I don't mind spending a little change, but my upper maximum would be about $500 USD.
Any recommendations?
