I just build this computer it's my first time building one. I have an MSI 970 motherboard, gtx 750i graphics card, amd 6300 6 core processor and the power supply is a 500w. The problem is that number 1, the instructions for the motherboard are just to complex for my knowledge right now but i have the power supply plugged in and the cpu plugged in. the graphics card is plugged into a cord that came out of the power supply and also into the motherboard where it goes. everything is in and i tried turning it on and the only thing that works is the blue light at the front of the power button. the fan isn't plugged into anything either because the power supply only has 3 connections 2 of them are going into the graphics card and 1 into the hdd. i have a PCI-E cable coming out of the power supply that i don't know where it goes either if anywhere. anyway, it doesn't work on except for the blue light in the front. do i have enough power?

Did you connect the power cables that come with the case? There should be a negative and positive power switch cable make sure you plug that in.
Cords you need:
VGA cable that goes from the PSU to GPU.
CPU cable that goes from the PSU to CPU.
24 pin cable that goes from the PSU to Motherboard.

You know what i completely over looked but i have 3 other cords that came with the motherboard. I don't know where they go! one of them doesn't look like a cord it's just a connector very thin says SLI on it but i think that's for the graphics card. and then i have 2 cables that are relatively the same and they say serial ATA
Go through the tutorial listed above.
You need to have the cpu fan plugged into the motherboard header. It is in the motherboard manual.
The sli cable is only if you have 2 graphics cards. You only need sata cables for the hard drives and cd drives. If the mobo came wiht 4 cables but you only have 1 hdd and 1 cd drive then you will have 2 left over.
Even if you did not plug one drive into the motherboard it would still power on and display on the screen.
If the motherboard has its own video ports on the back, you need to make sure you are plugged into the video port on the graphics card, not the ones on the motherboard.

i did everything the manual says and the tutorial you sent to me.. i turned it on and the light came on for a minute on the motherboard but then it went off almost instantly. everything is in except for a PCI-E cable from the power supply that has no spot to it and isn't it in the manual. there are also two other cables coming from the power supply that each have 3 connectors, they don't fit on the motherboard anywhere. I have the evga 500w power supply. I wonder if I need more power? the cpu fan is a liquid cooling fan that is plugged into the top system fan above the processor. Should I take some pictures?

The Audio Boost light comes on but then off only on the first initial power button press. i'm going to clean up the cords and see if i can't get a good picture of it. the molex connectors are connected to the graphics card, but my front fan has 2 molex connectors and my hdd has 1 molex connection. the fan in the front has 2 but one looks like a 4 prong insert and the other is an attachment. so one has prongs one has holes i guess is what i'm trying to say. let me work on it for another hour or so to clean up the cords and get pictures. i hope i don't need adapters or something to run the fan in the front.

sorry about the wires i want them to be more organized but the case doesn't allow them to go in through the back. you can see the gtx 750 ti is connected to the power supply by molex along with the hdd. then the fan has no molex connector to plug into, the molex on the power supply also has a fan plug which is plugged in just above the graphics card. system speaker is plugged in with the + (arrow) in the right spot along with the other small wires near the usb plugs. not sure what i'm doing wrong.
there is a molex connector for the gpu??? take a look at my connectors in one of the comments there are pictures. I have a cpu cable plugged into the top of the motherboard near the coolant fan and cpu. I'm asuming that's what you mean? I am like 90% sure everything is hooked up correctly. I'm thinking that I need some more molex connections for the front fan because it's not plugged into anything. the graphics card takes up 2 molex connections and the hdd takes up the other and my power supply only has 3 available molex connections.
Don't use molex connectors for a gpu, the power supply should have pci-e plugs for the graphics card.
If the power supply does not have the proper cables then you don't have a power supply good enough for gaming. Yes using the molex connectors will work, but the end result will be a power supply that burns up, and if your lucky it wont take anything out with it when it dies.
I cant see much from your pics as they are too zoomed out, I would need to see it zoomed on the actual connections.

Your power supply should also have the right sata power cables, you should not need to use a molex-sata converter.
It seems like you are using all molex to X adapters when you shouldn't need them.
GPU - use PCI-E 6pin cable form power supply (some power supplies have a 6+2 pin cable, just leave the other 2 pins disconnected)
Hard Drives/DVD Drives - should use the 15 pin sata connector, this connector should have an L shaped notch inside the connector
Case fans - Ideally you want to connect these to the fan headers on the motherboard. Now some boards only have 1-2 fan headers (not including the cpu fan header). When you run out of fan headers then you would connect it to a molex connector.
At this point it sounds like you need to go back and check your front panel connections. Could just be that you mixed up the reset and power buttons or something of that nature.
If you have not already, you should also check/reseat the gpu and the ram as it is really easy to only get it in 90% of the way and 90% = 0% boot.

I changed the pci-e to the gpu and it fits okay. reset the gpu and looked at the manual for the ram and it said DIM1 and DIM3 so i changed that. checked the front panel wires power led and reset to the manual. what's odd is before I had a blue light on the power button and then when I switch the cables around to what the manual said the blue power light went off. it must be something in the reset and power led that is off. i'm so tempted to take it into tiger direct but i really wanted to fix it on my own.
On your front audio ports header, are you using the HD audio or the AC97 labeled plug? You should be using the HD Audio one.

Make sure your 4/8 pin cpu connector and the 24pin motherboard connector is in snug

yes i'm using the hd audio. I had the led light on the power button working the first time i hooked it up but then after i rearranged it to the manuals specs, it wouldn't turn on i thought i had it on wrong so i looked at the manual and rearranged the front JFP1 to include the power switch, power led, reset switch and hdd led. the speaker is plugged into the JFP2. Now one thing that im wondering about is that JFP2 ha 3 open pins that say in the manual "power led, suspend led, ground" but i don't have any wires from the front panel labeled as such. the "audio boost" light on the motherboard dims on for like half a second then fades when the power button is hit. The 8 pin cpu is connected good and the 24 pin is connected good i made sure 4 different times. the motherboard i have is:. http://us.msi.com/product/mb/970-GAMING.html#hero-overview
i think i'm going to give in and take it to someone honestly...maybe there is something wrong with it. it's been 3 days of fiddling with it and i think i know what i'm doing now so there must be something wrong.
