Need help connecting network adapters

I recently started up my first build and I have no network connections available even though I have my Ethernet cable plugged in. When I trouble shoot the problem using windows 8.1 the error message says that I don't have a properly Installed network adapter and that if I do have an adapter I need to reinstall the driver. I downloaded a driver for my SBV5222 modem to my usb. The thing that I downloaded is called Drivertoolkit and when I try to update drivers or even scan it says that the network connection timed out, and that I should please check my network setting and try again. I have no idea what to do at this point and any help is appreciated.

You don't need a driver for the SBV5222 -- you need a driver for your Ethernet adapter that is either on your motherboard or in a PCIe slot. You can download it from either the motherboard maker or card maker support site. Just get the latest for your model that is Windows 8 compatible.

You should go direct to the support site and not use Drivertoolkit.

You don't need an optical drive. Download the drivers that you have not installed from the manufacturer website using another computer and transfer them with a USB stick to the build machine.

It is generally better to get the latest drivers online anyway -- those on the motherboard CD are usually outdated.

Both answers above are perfectly valid.
If you have access to another PC, you can go to the manufacturer's web site and download whatever drivers you need. If you don't have another PC, then you'll need to get an optical drive (can be external, but those are slower) and install the drivers from the motherboard's CD.

Windows 8.1 contains native support for almost every single NIC on the market. Vendor provided drivers may have more features than the Windows native drivers but the native drivers should be sufficient to connect to the internet. If it's so old that Windows doesn't support it natively, it's possible that the vendor doesn't provide Windows 8.1 drivers at all.

I have the same problem but in my case I start scan and within 3 sec it says network connection timeout
