need help converting video to audio mp3

i have some video clips that im looking to convert from video to mp3 yet i have no clue what the best free to use software is my os is xp 64 bit the clips range in size from 150 megs ro 1 gig

depending on file format you may want to look for tsmuxer. I believe it can take mkv files (not sure if others) and extract/breakdown the formats withing the container (.mkv) file
