NEED HELP! CPU fan is soooo loud

Whenever I play a game that uses a lot of cpu like Battlefield 3 my fan speeds up, normal. However, after I quit the game the fan does not slow down after 15 mins to a few hours. It never seems to slow to a normal rate EVER unless the computer is turned off overnight. In that case, the next morning it sounds normal. But, once I start up a game BAM, my computer gets "extremely loud computer syndrome". Anyone have any ideas?

Specs:
AMD FX 8320 @ Stock Speed w/ Stock CPU Fan
8 GB DDR3 @ 1600Mhz
Gigabyte GTX 650 Factory OC w/ 2GB DDR5 Ram
Asus M5A97 R2.0 Motherboard
Smilodon Raidmax Gaming Development Case
2 (exhaust) Effizio fans (80mm, 12dBA, 25 cfm)
1 intake fan, forget the name, in the front.

What are your temps. The fans may be spinning fast because the game is taxing the cpu/gpu and its heating up (which is normal)

Right now I'm @ 5% CPU Load and I'm at 41 C. I could bring up sony vegas and start a render to see what max load is, would that help? Or it that enough info?

Using HWmonitor, try to check your temp and CPU fan speed on high load. AMD stock cooler isn't really good in keeping the noise down. Mine, without proper setting, can get to 5000 RPM while gaming, and that's very loud. I'm using a software called Speedfan to control the speed of my CPU fan.

WOW, 6900 RPM, that's awfully loud. You must slow it down in order to keep the noise under control 😛.

How? Also, why is one of my fans reading out at 337500RPM! I have 2 Case fans hooked up and they are as quiet as can be. They are hooked up to my mobo, why is only one showing up with a bogus speed?

As I can see that you're using ASUS MB, try check this screenshots on Asus BIOS and go to "monitoring" tab, you can see the fan control there. http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1639/4/

About your last question: As long as you don't overclock (OC) your CPU, you'll be perfectly fine. No need to worry about the CPU intensive tasks. Your MB will activate the fan to max speed (means very loud noise) when the temp reaches certain point (mine is 60*C) in order to keep the temp down. However, if you are bothered with the CPU noise, please consider to buy an aftermarket cooler. They are much quieter 🙂.

Instead of purchasing an entire aftermarket heat sink, what about just an aftermarket fan to slap on my stock heat sink. Is that possible? If so, what fan would you recommend? I have a tight budget right now. Would $10-20 bucks work, maybe willing to go up to 30, but that's a bit too high for me (already spent ~900 bucks on this setup so far)?

Try entering BIOS first and see whether it had options to control your Fan speed or not. Meanwhile I'll try giving you hints how to use speedfan later on, when I have enough time 😛.

Here's what I did. I went into my bios and set the CPU Fan speed profile to silent.

Hi, sorry for my late reply. No, it won't be a problem in any games. Your fan will eventually get louder as the application is taxing your CPU and makes it hot enough and become quiet as the temp goes down. 🙂
