Need help deciding how much RAM

I want to build a computer how much RAM do i need?


I want to use it for gaming... i play games like Skyrim, CoD black ops 2, far cry 3, assasins creed 4.

Please help thanks

8 GB is recommended, as no game will use more and 8GB is also plenty for most other applications. 16GB of RAM is overkill, 4GB will not be enough for certain games/ cause a slight bottleneck.

8 is the perfect amount.

4GB is too little because your OS and background software (such as AV) require 2GB of ram just for themselves. even though you still have 2GB of ram available after the OS and AV take their bite, that's till not much breathing room for games.

once the game's engine loads into the RAM, the heavy lifting goes to the GPU's memory. so make sure you get a decent GPU.
