Need help downgrading from Windows 7 to XP

I recently optained an Acer Aspire 3680 which the previous owner upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate. I'm wanting to restore it back to the original Windows XP Media Center 2005. I have the OS on a usb stick, but when I go to boot from the usb stick the blue setup screen comes on for about 10 seconds then I get the the blue error screen. How do I get around this so I can get this laptop back to its original OS?

Try different RAM or one RAM stick at a time if the computer has more than one. You should also test your boot media on another system to see if it works in general.
