Question Need help figuring out power for i9-12900k

Hello guys,

I am starting a new PC build and stepping from a 4th gen intel to an i9-12900k processor along with a new motherboard and a few other components. I currently have a RM1000 Gold and it only has one CPU connector (EPS-12V). I see two connectors on the motherboard in the manual for the motherboard but as you can see I only have one. I did some research and most people say that one connector is usually fine for cpu's but other say the wattage draw from the i9-12900k has potential to exceed the rating for one cable/connection. The first link is one that says one is really only necessary but use the second cable if you have one (kind of vague with the answer) and the second link says it definitely is not enough to rely on one EPS-12V cpu connector from the power supply.

My question is if anyone knows the true power demand of the i9-12900k and the necessity for the second cpu cable. I would like to avoid using a 3rd party cable but will if that means getting this running optimally.

I went ahead and ordered this but am a little weary since it's not an OEM cable. But I guess I have to work with what I have here.

i would never recommend a 3rd party cable, even if they are rated by the manufacturer to be compatible.
i would always contact the original PSU manufacturer and request an additional cable first.

have seen many reports of users blowing hardware by attempting this.

as far as i've ever seen or read over the years this second CPU power cable is only for extreme overclocking.

just contact Intel directly and ask them if you're unsure of how to go about setting it up and afraid to try it as is.

All RM/RMx use the same pinout for EPS. Just get a Type 3 or Type 4 cable.

Agreed, that is probably the most sound approach in terms of a definitive path forward.

Yes, I did end up picking one up but the 3rd party side of it is keeping me on edge. I also ended up picking up one of these to test the connector wiring before hooking it up to the board. If everything goes well it should provide pinout and power identical to the OEM EPS-12V cpu connector.
