About two years ago my family finally upgraded to an HDTV, and as a gamer that excited me because HD just looks so much better. But the problem is that this particular TV does not have not have RCA(Red, White, Yellow) ports, which means my older non-HD consoles don't work with it. It does have Red/White/Green/Blue/Red support(I think that's S-Video, can't remember.), but when I tried that with my PS2 the image stretched off of the screen and I couldn't see important information. So I'm left with one last option if I want to use my older systems(and VCR.), and that's to get a converter box, preferably one that outputs at 720p/1080p with no image quality problems and that fits the image to the screen without stretching and distorting it. All my efforts to find one on my own have been less than successful. Every one I look at has three stars or less and the reviewers cite image problems as the main reason, either that or I can't even find a composite to HDMI converter and all I get is the reverse, which I definitely don't need.

By the sounds of it you tried a composite (RCA - yellow, red, white) in a component (RGB) input of the TV, ....did you or you can buy for the PS2 a component (RGB for video and red, white for audio) cable from ebay the component needs for your TV 5 RCA plugs to work properly I dont see why when you tried it the picture was stretched only unless you used the wrong cable - that should not have happened. I would stay away from the AV to HDMI converter on ebay named "mini AV2HDMI" as I have read there are people having trouble with them but I see people are also having good picture and sound quality so be careful not to mention that they are cheaply sold so who knows what quality you would get from them.
