I currently have the Netgear D2200D router that frontier provided me with. I am looking to upgrade (i'd like to spend less than $80) but while looking online for routers I noticed that some have a rj11 input for a phone line - which i need in the one i get- and some do not, having only ethernet inputs. Does is have to be a router/modem combo or just a router?
So what or how should i search to find the type i need (without looking at the back of each one)?
it is ADSL2+ and 802.11n if some one could recommend any reasonably priced compatible ones or just set me off in the right direction it would be so appreciated!
Thank You!

A new router may not improve your speed. Most times the speed is restricted by the quality of the wires coming to your house. I was assuming you were doing it to not pay a monthly lease fee rather than performance.

Pretty much just make sure the router has a DSL modem in it and it will likely work on your system.
You ISP should have lists of compatible devices but with dsl most accept anything. It is almost impossible to find a DSL modem without a router function. This to a point will limit you choice. Some of the very high end routers do not have models that have dsl modems in them.

I would not be concerned a lot with the port on the back of the router. If the router says it has a dsl modem in it there will be a port. Some dsl router also have a ethernet wan port so you can run them on non dsl system. I guess it is for people that think they might switch to something other than dsl in the future.

Some DSL modem/routers have rj45 "phone" ports. Not sure why. They generally have a cable with a rj45 on one end and a rj11 on the other. The trick that works though is you can plug a rj11 plug into the rj45 jack. The center pins line up and it works. This does not mean you can plug a rj11 plug into a actual ethernet port it only work when the port is a phone port that happens to have rh45

Thank u so much for the help! So the routers that i'm looking at that have a rj45 port to connect my phone line to it will work rather than searching for one than has a rj11. That helps to know so much because i could not figure out how i could tell which was which without looking at pictures of each one and i was feeling like i was missing something there.
can you tell me if the current one I'm using just a router or a router/modem combo?

My current speeds max out at 6mbps and I'll try anything so improve my online quality of life...
