Please help I have broken a friends computer.
I was trying to fix a nividia graphics card error on a friend's Lenovo y410p with windows 7. In doing so I tried to flash this BIOS from Lenovos website. The computer is now not booting as the BIOS is down. I would like to flash the bios using a USB and the image from the computer's original bios version 3.05. How would I do this? I have tried pheonix flashing but can not get the .wph file that is necessary.

Here are some images of the errors:

Thanks for the insight I will be sure to contact them. Do you know of any methods to boot from media device like a usb with the bios .bin on it?

Hi

the errors seem to be that default boot device is not found or is not a hard drive

trying to boot over network IP4 or IP6

Can you get into bios/uefi bios and select default boot device is hard drive

can you find howto reset cmos settings by changing jumper ?
(find user manual at Lenovo web site if no paper or driver CD version available version)

Thanks for the insights. To answer your questions I have not been able to navigate to a boot from hard disk menu. If changing the jumper requires opening the computer I would have to run through that with the owner and see if he would trust me after what seems like a disaster. Do you have any experience booting from media at a stage like this? The computer does prompt that it is searching for media. So far it sounds like booting from media is the best solution but I am unable to find a resource that I can use to make a bootable usb in this state.

Hi

Flashing the bios is far more risky than resetting CMOS by setting jumper to clear CMOS chip
On next boot defaults will have been re loaded
You reset date & time .
If only one hard disk this will be boot device

You are usually told to reset CMOS after flashing bios

The bios is currently trying pxe boot over network to pxe server
Far too complex for me to explain so read wiki

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preboot_Execution_Environment

Get permission to open case
Read manufacturers user instructions on resetting CMOS
( may not be possible on laptops and all in one systems )

A quick update the mess of a bios that is left over is usb bootable. I just ran an ubuntu usb drive to see if it was capable of reading usb inputs and it was a success. Now all i need is to create a bootable usb containing an adequate bios for the computer. Any ideas?

Hi

Please my advice again it is not clear current bios is corrupted or wrong one
Most instructions say reset CMOS after flashing bios
Read manufacturers detailed instructions on bios flashing

It ranges from dual bios so jumper changes which is master bios

To putting bios file on USB sometimes formatted in fat 16 sometimes fat 16 or fat 32, usually with specific file name for bios file
Sometimes flash is automatic or requires pressing key at startup

You must get instructions from Lenovo and read them then follow them

Thank you all for your help. I was going to contact lenovo but i found a guide online that really helped. My friends nvidia card still isnt being read but he can manage on just the intel 4600 for now. I did not open the computer as I feared messing it up more. This is the link to the guide I used for fixing.
