Need help for psu

Hi just recently had my psu blow up on me havent tested if it works dont really want to use it again if it does anyway but I took it out of pc and I got an rma for a new one approved but I need to know if my parts still work in my pc I was using a rm750x corsair psu and my old psu is a 500w dont even know the brand i just bought it when I was building my first pc and anyway my new pc is running a gtx 1080 with i7 6700k liquid cooling 16ddr4 ram and I hope thats all the info u need for specs anyway I wanna use my 500w psu to atleast power my pc on and see if everything still works could Inuse that power supply and be fine to just check if all my componets are still working i dont plan on using the pc till i get the new psu... thanks for any help

Were you hit with a power surge etc? Or has it been chalked up to a defective PSU?

The RMx750 should have sufficient protection to have avoided further damage - so you should be fine in that regard.

A 500W PSU should be sufficient to run that setup in the interim, but realistically, if it's poor quality (and it might be if you don't even recall the brand), it's potentially risky*.

*The risk is slim, if you just want to test that it'll post, but I would hold off until you have your new PSU before you do anything stressful with it.... unless you can post the make/model of this "500W PSU" to evaluate.
