42c at idle? I assume you are using a stock cooler? If so and considering the age of that cpu its just not worth it to try and overclock. If you aren't happy with the proc now, OCing it won't make it a beast.

Considering its an OEM system, OCing is almost certainly impossible.

So I just simply pass on this one or get a better cooler.
Thanks for your help :)

Overclock is possible with different processor, if you are interested, however it is going to be a headache, at least for me.
It probably will speed up your PC at least twice, but it would not make it compatible to todays low end PCs, it will be way below them.

If you are interested to look this way, answer a few questions first.
What is your motherboard (look in CPUZ under mainboard tab) model.
Second, what is your PC form factor

From Left to Right: Mini Tower or MT (the largest), Desktop or DT (in the center) and Small Form Factor or SFF (right side)

OriginalPng

So, if you are interested in proceeding this way, answer first those 2 questions, if not - do not answer.

Actually, I just found a crazy solution - upgrading to AMD Athlon II X4 630, I have confirmation that it is working, per CPU benchmark performance increase is huge from 940 to 3190 or 300% increase, in real life it is still a big difference, in this case overclock is not possible, and is not necessary!
however the price is steep at $86.99 http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-ATHLON-II-X4-QUAD-CORE-2-8GHz-630-PROCESSOR-Socket-AM3-95W-OEM-ADX630WFK42GI-/330766095952?pt=US_Computer_Anti_Theft_Locks_Kits&hash=item4d03321650 to buy now.

So?

Disregard my previous post, this CPU upgrade will beat it.

schmuckley have you realized that OP has BTX case, not ATX, oops, I believe you just advised ATX motherboard, am I correct?
In this situation OP will need new case, new everything, too much money for nothing.
Take a look at my last post above, sounds much more simpler, just a CPU upgrade................

I didn't notice the BTX form factor either. Heh, though for the CPU switch idea, its an OEM mobo, OEMs lock down any form of voltage/clock/multipliers/etc. Most times the only thing you can change is the system clock.

Not to mention the probable lack of heatsinks on the board. (VRM and maybe nb/sb)

@mouse24: becareful about this topic - overclocking Dell is not impossible task anymore, look at my signature. I can overclock any Dell with AMD Black Edition CPU and any Dell with Q66000!
However in this particular situation upgrade to Athlon 630 is stronger than placing Brisbane Athlon 5000+ Black Edition and overclocking it, OP would have to improve cooling for overclock as well, to many headaches.

They don't lock down there bios anymore? Or do you need to flash it with a custom bios? Either way the need for heatsinks on the vrm and other chipsets is very real and you can and most likely will do damage if you do not have them.

I don't recommend OCing on OEM systems, they are built to contain the specific parts and nothing more. This sometimes means very harsh restrictions on the TDP of the proc. You often see on OEM websites that you don't want to go above a certain TDP with procs. The power phases just can't handle it.

Being able to change the multiplier, alright, thats cool. But are they still voltage locked? I have a couple of old c2d machines that are voltage locked. Aswell as a couple single core amd chips. (forget which)

A few points, first, the way BTX cooling is done here is that MOSFETs are cooled down first before CPU, there are also small, simple heatsinks, I think.
Second, unfortunately Q6600 can be overclocked using BSEL conductive ink method, but it is possible, at least. Also, using PLL method, a lot of work, but better than nothing.
And third, black edition, there is a procedure, which allows to unlock VCORE and N bridge voltage control for AMD overdrive. Bios stays locked in all
scenarios, however AMD based Dells got an adge over Intel.

Case schmase, stick the mobo on piece of Newegg box.

Can you explain one more time, what you just said, confusing!

Set you asking about new build? Or what you mean by upgrading to something better?

I will go along the assumption that you are asking for a new build and I will ask some questions of my own. What do you do with the computer, what do you need it to do. (hardcore gaming requirements are vastly different than office requirements)

Do you have any case size requirements or any specific parts you would like to incorporate into the new build? (legacy parts such as old ide hdds, etc)

And lastly, whats your budget?

A Celeron g530 with an h61 Motherboard and some RAM would be a large upgrade, and fairly inexpensive.Probably $150

Sorry for bad English what I meant was a new build.

Yes, Hardcore gaming pc is what I am looking forward.
I am thinking to get a dual core or a quad core processor (Suggest me one which is also good for oc)
Secondly I am think to buy Gigabyte Radeon HD 6670 2GB Graphic Card - GV-R667D3-2GI
Tell me if its good?
My budget is around 100-200$

$200, it is not enough for a new build, maybe for something newer, but you can not get today components for this money, video card alone will take $100 for an entry level gaming card - HD7750, so let me ask you a few things:
What games you are planning to play, list them.
What monitor resolution you have now.

Consider another fact, if you build new PC you will need another copy of Windows as well, so i am strongly suggesting to think about new build versus upgrading (for 200 it is possible to get into minimum requirements for most games).

Well I am planning to play most newer games like Tomb Raider NFS MW COD Series and some old popular games.
My current monitor resolution is 1280x1024

Yeah at 200 you can't get much. Even if you stretched it to 300 you probably wouldn't be able to get anything worth while seeing as how you would need to replace almost everything. CPU/Mobo/Ram/Case(btx to atx)/PSU/Windows

I mean you might be able to get some cheap APU + mobo + 4gb/8gb ddr3 + CX430 + 20 dollar case and OEM windows or something to that effect.

Motherboard:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138332 $55
CPU:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116408 $50
RAM:http://www.ebay.com/itm/2GB-MEMORY-DDR3-PC3-10600-M392B5673FH0-CH9-SAMSUNG-IBM-49Y1438-47J0149-/221184370070?pt=US_Memory_RAM_&hash=item337f9da596 (2) $26
That leaves $70 for GPU ..probably not going to be very powerful there.
I'd say get a 4890..won't do dx11 but..fairly powerful.
OWAIT You'd need a PSU to run it..a good one.
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=HD-675X-ZDFMV11-FB-R&cat=VCD i still think it might need a 6-pin
yes..it needs one 6-pin
What you need is a decent PSU and go from there;tbh. That's how it is.
Here's a 6570 that needs no 6-pin http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131496
Good Luck!
or this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131440
I think 6670 is as powerful as you can go without needing new power supply

Is it me or you missing a few - case for another $30-40, and Windows for another $50 at least, so it will make bill grow by another ~$100 or so.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
