Salutations everyone,

My computer has 3 hard drives, one SSD, a seagate HDD and a re-used laptop HDD . My problem is with the Seagate HDD.

Since this morning when i started up my pc. Whenever i start up my pc with the Seagate hard drive is plugged in windows file explorer and task manager crash if i open ether one.

If i unplug the hard drive it my computer starts up fine. So i tried to plug in the hard drive with a usb to sata adapter to get the data off, but my pc dose not see the hard drive. I have tried using Disk Management and it is unable to see it either.

So, is there anyway to get the data of this of the seagate drive?

Hey there, Drakon_Eques!

Have you had any issues with it prior to this problem? Any unusual sounds/noises coming from the drive, slow read/write speeds?

I'd recommend that you try it with a different computer as well, to see if the same thing happens. If that doesn't work either, you could try accessing it via Ubuntu Live USB/DVD, to see if the drive is properly recognized and if you can get to your files. You could also go for data recovery software and hope that it doesn't freeze your system or crash the program as it happens with Windows Explorer and Task Manager: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html and http://pcsupport.about.com/od/filerecovery/tp/free-file-recovery-programs.htm. However, the most reliable solution of all would be a data recovery company. If your data is valuable I'd suggest that you go straight for professional help.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.

Got my data back!

I plugged it into a second machine and it was able to see the drive. It was in a RAW format so i trued using Recuva, but it didn't work, so i used MiniToolPower and was able to get the data of with that.

Thank you for the help,

Awesome, you were pretty lucky! :)

I'd recommend that you think of a possible backup solution for your important files. Something like cloud service, external drive or another computer. Those are all viable options for data backup. Note that storing your files somewhere is not a backup. It should be a copy of the data you already have somewhere else in order for it to be a backup.

Again - good job! Cheers! 😀
