i have 3 switches (S1,S2 and S3). A router and a NVR.

i am trying to connect NVR to LAN. at the moment NVR seting is done without LAN connection.

so, laid a cable from my router to S1. and then i used another cable to connect S1 and S2.

and another cable to link S1 and S3. so, basically 2 cables going out from S1. 1 to S2 and 1 to S3.

Router -------> S1

S1 ------------> S2

S1 ------------> S3

S3-------------> NVR

Router IP is 192.168.18.1

NVR IP is 192.168.18.2

after connecting like this i am not able to router or NVR or internet. i thing a loop is being created because of the way i am connecting these switches.

can anyone help?

Solution
It should work fine. If the switches you used are "managed" or smart switches you may have a misonfiguration. Unmansged switches you can just hook up.

You do not have a loop. A loop would be if you were to say connect s3 to s2.

Make sure all the ports are have the proper lights maybe you have a bad cable.
