you would need a gtx 1080 ti for 1440 144hz

freesync would help a bit, but before knowing the exact performance level of the new amd cards this may not be enough if the performance is poor

We already know the price with the Vega 56 at $399 and Vega 64 at $499. AMD isn't going to overprice their cards nor under price much as they aren't about to start a price war with Nvidia. As I said Vega 64 should equal the 1080.

A GTX1080 with g-sync is fine for a 144hz monitor. The 1080ti is more in the range of ultra wide 1440p and mid level 4k gaming.

where are the benchmarks?

if you are going solely on hearsay most people put the new amd cards in between a 1070 and a 1080

that would not be enough even with freesync

Price and even package deals were already release so its not hearsay. Its based on solid evidence of where AMD expects those cards to perform. The hearsay right now is the Vega 56 beats the 1070 and the 64 does the same against the 1080. Again hearsay is the water cooled version doesn't reach the 1080ti. That is somewhat supported by the $699 price as th 1080ti runs about $750. The prices are fact tho.
