need help in deciding GTX 970 OR AMD R9 390(or maybe r9 380)

Hey, i'm planning to upgrade from my gtx 680 to a new gpu but now i am wondering if should i buy a gtx 970 or a R9 390. the 390 is still shipping so i don't know how much it will be in my country ((but the prices are related to european prices)).
i'm planning to play 1080p and for some games upscaling 1440p.
and another question, i guess the R9 390will be more future proof ??? (4 vs 8gb)

i have a 700W PSU so no problem there--i have an I7 3770k.
I KNOW THIS KIND OF DISCUSSION WILL BE ASKED TOO MUCH

If you can wait a few weeks to see some benchmarks I would highly recommend that. The r9 390 and 390x cards look to have nice specs but it will be interesting to see how they actually perform. If you have waited this long whats another few weeks? Personally I have a GTX 970 and I really like it for my 1080p gaming and I love the lower power consumption. I was hoping AMD would offer something new and not go the re-branding route but that is not the case (ugh). We may also see a price drop on the 970 (pure speculation) so it might be worth it to wait a few weeks. As far as "future proof" goes there really is no such thing; get an affordable card that you can use now and upgrade again in a few years. I was tempted to get a 980ti but it makes more sense to spend less now and upgrade in 2 years than to spend it all now and be stuck with a card for 4+ years

Dont touch the 300 series for the time being, its just a rebrand with minor changes, you'll better fare off with the 970.
GPU's are switching to 14nm though, so get cheap ones of 970, and change them when the 14nm and HBM tech matured in a years time.
8GB's doesnt mean its futureproof, it simply mean that you can handle higher resolution gaming that requires a lot of texture utilizations decently, but its all down to the core power, that if the core is not powerful enough to utilize the whole VRAM, you're wasting your bucks on unspent VRAM

Review are out for the 300 series. You can get pretty much 980 performance from a r9 390 for $330.
I like the low power draw of the 970 but it's pretty hard to go past a card that out performs it with a memory buffer being 8GB for the same price as a 970.
The Sapphire card keeps the 390 nice and cool and quiet but there isn't much room for overclocking so you just have to use what they give.

I would wait for the Nano as well at this point.
The problem comes in that if you have nothing to use now.
The Nano is a long ways off yet.
I'm thinking a Nano + Skylake build will be my next PC. This one has served me well for what will be 5 years by then. Aside from the ongoing SLI issues with retarded Nvidia drivers.

Yes but AMD are boasting near Fury performance but needing to fit in between a 390x and the Fury. It's going to have to be $450 which means the 390x will have to push down.
The 390x probably should be $350 to compete more with the 970. It beats it pretty handily in almost everything.
If you feel you need a better GPU now the remaining 290 stock is a bit cheaper and performs basically the same.

thank you all. after seeing some benchmarks i decided to go for the R9 390. but i have one more question who is the best manufacture for AMD ? i heard sapphire is good

Sapphire is the only AMD brand I would even consider. Their Tri-X and Vapor-X are by far the best cooling solutions on the market.

Do you know any information about the xfx version of the r9 390? Like if there is any issues with the cooling

Well, I have a good experience with Asus. It's Hd 6950 is still in my case and perform practicly the same like four years before I bought it. Now I'm considering replacement and probably it will be r9 390. Not decided yet which brand perhaps Asus again or Msi. The main reason is they are the most good looking cards. But that doesn't mean other brands in the sense of performance are not good.

I am also hesitating on wether to buy the gtx970 or r9 390. I really like the 8gb on the r9 but I am hearing that nvidia has a lot better support, right now I have HD6970 and AMD`s support on this card was going downhill from its release. What is the whole 3.5gb issue btw? Does it matter much in games that are out right now?
Basically I am looking for a card thats under 400$ and is able to play everything on ultra in the newest games (Assassins Creed Unity, GTA V, etc).

I bought a Sapphire R9 290x 8Gb second hand from a guy which is pretty much exactly the same as the 390x. I tried it on 3 motherboards, Z68, H87, Z97 and it wouldn't post on any of those machines. Seems to be a problem with compatability with GPU UEFI Bios. Just something to think about, I didn't realise it was a problem. Luckily I could return it.
I purchased a 970 Strix second hand instead.
I was able to overclock the 970 quite well 1475mhz GPU, 8Gbps memory. It yielded about 9 FPS increase in Unigene Heaven benchmarking. went from 52fps to 61.5 which is about 18%. That's closing the gap on a stock 980.
Obviously not all 970's overclock equally but they can all squeeze some free FPS out. I've seen people reporting even higher clocks which exceed 980 performance.
The card never exceeds 69 degrees C and never goes over 44% fan speed which added no volume to my PC.
I could still only hear my case fans all of which are set to their slowest speed.
Overall I'm glad I ended up with a 970.
I came from a pair of GTX 570's SLI which ran super hot and extremely loud. Whilst gaming on the 570's I needed my 4 case fans on at least medium settings and the air coming out was extremely hot. Both cards were blower type cooling as well meaning most of the hot air was pushing out the back. The back of the cards and the surrounding case got so hot you couldn't touch any of it for several minutes after use without scalding your hands.
My room has gone from sounding like I'm sitting in the middle of Central Station to sitting in an empty library.
I will never buy a hot loud card again.

Be careful with the reviews. Most of then are for the R9 390X and not the R9 390. I will wait for the benchmarks. But I think the two are good. But if you are interested in lest power consumption and heat and better drivers suppot I will go with the GTX 970, the G1 is a good one.

Of course R9 390! how about GTX 970 3.5G memory, if u step over 3.5G, You will be fucked! Full of stuttering. and one again. 4G VRAM in future games is useless. i predict 2-3 years from now, all game will use VRAM over 4G
oke, we can't just see on VRAM, but 8G VRAM is better than 4G VRAM right?
