My build:

mobo: MSI z170A Gaming
RAM: Gskill ripjaw v DDR4 2800 X 2 - 8GB sticks
CPU: Intel core I5 - 6600K @ 3.5GHZ
GPU: GIGABYTE Geforce GTX 1070
PSU: CORSAIR 750 WATTS
OS: WINDOWS 10 64-bit
HD: 240GB SSD

This is a 9mo build and i started having problems about 3mo ago, my computer keeps freezing up on me and i have to do a hard restart, [the mouse and the keyboard freeze and i have no control] No blue screens, just freezes. If i take out 1 stick of ram the computer is fine, DOESN'T matter what stick OR which slot its in. Looking for input on the problem, and help with diagnosing the problem. I am kind of computer illiterate so if you could explain in NOOB terms that would be great. I am kinda thinking the problem is the mobo just because i have no problems running with 1 stick of ram, DOESN'T matter which one in either ram slot, ALSO if it is the mobo and i have to RMA it, does that mean i have to buy a new operating system as well? Thanks in advance for any advice and or solutions.

i checked the event log and these are the codes that came up
0x0 -?
0x500ff -?
0x80020003 - planned upgrade
0x2001a - system restore
0x80020010 -?

the 0x0 and the 0x500ff codes are the ones that seem to come up the most lately im assuming those are the problem

i will try clearing cmos
just cleared the cmos and still the same problem, how about a clean install of windows and and drivers for mobo or would that be a waste of time?

Do you have a spare Hard Disk ?, or a ssd, that you can use to reinstall
Windows ?, right now, your problem can be hardware or software based.
No need to destroy your installation of Windows ...., if the problem is hardware based.

If you can do a fresh install of Windows 10, install motherboard drivers, etc...
in other words, bare essential that's it. It would eliminate the software part.

P.S , did you "tweak" anything in the bios ?, if uncertain always put it on "Auto".

Are you certain both stick's of memory are identical ? memory mismatch ?

Like I said, start by reinstalling the software, and we can go from there.
I'm on vacation this week, so, i'll check back on a daily basis.

Let me know....
