Hi. Real newbie needs help.
I have an old Q6600 desktop & it`s time to upgrade to something which will hopefully last for 5 years on a limited budget, (hoping for Black Friday/Boxing Day prices). After reading forums I have an idea of what I think would be suitable and would appreciate any suggestions.
I am not a heavy gamer and won`t need to overclock right away but would like to have the option. I have looked at older OC results for DDR3 1600mhz 2x4gb and while some models show results to 2400mhz ( with better benchmarks than ram rated at 2400mhz) comments have suggested that the current same model has lesser results. Some sets with good results are no longer available and hard to find recent tests or those based on i7-4790K.
The more I researched the more eager I became to try a full build while dreading the thought of finishing and having it not starting up, (previously only changed video card, memory and power supply).

My thoughts so far:

CPU i7-4790K (Only part I don`t want to change)
Motherboard Asus Z97-A
Ram 2X4GB ? (G.Skill F3-1600C7D-16GTX / F3-1600C9D-16GXM both look
like good OC, 2400/2448mhz, but over my budget)
Hard Drive *BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX 2TB / TOSHIBA DT01ACA200 2TB
(Crucial MX100 CT512MX100SSD1m if big price drop/future upgrade)
*EDIT: Add Samsung 840Evo MZ-7TE120BW 120GB 2.5in SATA III ($90 now) for O.S.
as Windows oem is single use & would be stuck on WD drive.
GPU GEFORCE GTX 650 Ti (from my Q6600)
Case ? good value full size with 2 USB3.0 top/front ports
Optical Drive ? would like Blu-ray/dvd burner but may transfer dvd burner from Q6600
Power Supply 400watt (from my Q6600)
Operating System ? Windows 7 or 8.1 -hate to pay Microsoft for another copy but tried
Ubuntu & too old to adapt I guess
Expansion Cards ? Is sound card built into Asus Z97-A?
I have a cisco valet 2.0 USB wireless internet adapter -should I get one
for MB instead?
CPU COOLER ? What is required if I am not overclocking?

Anything else?
As I said this is my first try and I really appreciate your suggestions. Thanks
(My first post so I hope it is done properly.)

Solution
1. High frequency ram is an expensive waste of money unless you are running an APU. Stick with the 1600MHZ stuff.
2. Cases are subjective, but personally I prefer the NZXT phantom range. Corsair Graphite series, Fractal Design, and NZXT H230 are all good choices as well.
3. Optical drives all basically do the same thing - get the most cost effective one that you can find that meets your needs
4. The ASUS Z97-A does come with decent onboard audio, and will suffice for most people. If you are an audiophile, or own a pair of high-end headphones, you may want to buy a PCI-E audio card. Creative Labs make some quite good ones I believe.
5. The USB WIFI adapter should be fine.
6. The stock cooler will do if you aren't overclocking, although...
