This is my situation. The tax man came and delivered upon me a Easter surprise of 1,000 US.
What I thought best to do would be to build a new computer.

I'm pretty sure I would need a quad core to play games + do some lite video editing/authoring, but is there a setup for a dual core that would result in better performance? I dont know what processor I should use im so kind of stuck.

I have:

5 new samsung burners
2 Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
64 XP

It should be clear that I run the burners in series, so I need a full size tower/ or at least 3 bays for drives

Also should I upgrade to 64 vista?

I will likely overclock as well.

Eternal gratitude to anyone who offers any help with a awesome build.

Oops I just saw that part about the monitor...it breaks your budget. Maybe if you drop the vid card down to a gts 250...for around $130...it's still over budget though. :(

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit for System Builders - OEM

OK on the Vista 64 thing....there's threads on this, but I will say what I would do. If I had the extra cash or if I could get my hands on a freebie vista 64 I would do it in a heart beat. DX10, fast with gaming, etc... I love it to be honest. People are going to post on here to wait for Windows 7. What they don't tell you is that Windows 7 isn't going to be out until late 2010 from what MS is saying now.

The people on here against Vista are usually the ones stuck in time and refuse to join the rest of the world here in 2009.

OK...let the flaming begin......
