Need help on installing a second router behind ISP-provided DSL router.

Hey guys,

So the story is that my ISP has provided me with a DSL combo router which also has modem and wifi capabilities.

The router is not customisable at all as my ISP is very strict with these things and i have decided to explore my options regarding a second router. In the beginning i thought of just replacing my isp provided one but it is difficult to find a nice good DSL router and furthermore my ISP strongly advised against..

Now i am just thinking since i have never added a second router before, if i purchase a new router and connect it to my isp provided one, will the new router handle everything connected to it before it transfers data to my old router? I mean if i enter custom DNS routes and all (which wasn't available on my old router), will these still be effective since it will have to pass from my old router?

U will be doing DOUBLE NAT, which will mess up your torrents, but otherwise it should work.

Thanks for the reply, what do you mean it will mess up my torrents? How does it affect it?
