I have 8 GB of G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL8D-8GBXM this memory in my pc, with the following specs:
DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900)
Timing 8-9-9-24
CAS Latency 8
Voltage 1.5V

I want to add 8GB more to my system, but can't seem to locate this RAM anywhere anymore. So if I'm going to add 8GB more ram does it need to match the specs of the above exactly? Can the CAS Latency be different? voltage? etc? Thanks in advance.

Solution
Memory is guaranteed in the form it is sold.

Matching up identical part numbers carry no guarantee to be compatible together.

Once you add extra memory to existing memory the additional stress on the memory controller may cause the old memory to no longer be able to operate at rated specifications. You might be able to get such combinations to work at a slower speed with increased voltage. You take on the responsibility for doing your own testing as the modules have never been tested together and have no guarantee to work together.
