It's a long story guys.. Today, i did a monthly maintenance for my new rig, the first time. I took off the stock heatsink and happily put it back on after blowing in with a vaccum, not realizing that it was not properly installed.

After that, i went online, and checked the temps, it was at 90 ~ 100c !!! I was surprised that my computer did not shut down for some reason, so i decided to open it up and try it again. So yeah, it was fixed.

But i have a question to ask you guys, in fact, two.

1. What heatsink should i get? I am sick and tired of the stock ones and little thermal paste applied (lowest quality sh*t). I am looking to get the Xigmatek Dark Knight Night Hawk edition and the Arctic Silver MX-4. Then get another 120mm aftermarket fan for the exhaust. I am not planning to overclock (just turbo boost) by the way.

Now, just by surfing and typing online, my temps are already hitting 56c before dropping back to 40+.. :pt1cable: :pt1cable:

2. Since my temperature hit 90 ~ 100c when i did my "retarded" mistake, will the CPU be damaged? If so, what are the signs? Checked the CPU-Z clocks and they were pretty consistent as before.
(I am on warranty and i could get a RMA if something goes wrong which i hope not).

Please reply in that format above and a big thank your for the replies! :wahoo: :wahoo:

IMO get the Coolermaster Hyper Evo 212

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099&Tpk=hyper%20evo%20212

save yourself a few bucks and it is the best performer for the money.

As far as your CPU goes, you should be fine, most have an autoshut off in the BIOS once it hits a certain temp, but honestly it's not something you would see for a long while unless you completely fried it, then you wouldn't be able to use it lol.

The Xigmatek Gaia is at least $5 cheaper than the Crappermaster, tested within 1C (i.e. the error margin), and is quieter, per Frostytech reviews. Since you're not going for maximum OC anyway, I'd get the Gaia. I use them on both of my systems, and they work well.
