I have been having an ongoing problem for awhile now trying to overclock my q6600 to a stable condition. Where it would be able to run very smoothly without ingame problems like the game having computer lag issues.
The use of the computer is mostly just for 1 game, Counter Strike Source.

My Specs:
Q6600 G0 SLACR
19" Samsung LCD
Evga 780i Motherboard
DDR2 800 mhz 5-5-5-18 2T Corsair Memory
PC Power & Cooling 750w Silencer
Western Digital 250 gb at 7200 rpm
Evga 9800 gtx 512 mb Video Card --- 1 at the moment but I have 2. - Would this make a difference in CS?
I like my game settings at low, and my res at 1024x768

What would be the greatest fix for an issue like this one, would i need to purchase something to fix the problems? What would be the most beneficial overclock for playing a game of this genre.
What i notice the most in this game is kind of a wierd lag as if the game isn't running at its potential, which I know its not because it isn't smooth at all. My fps rate in counter strike is 240. Its not as much of a lag as it is a choppy feel while playing... Thanks for any help and input you choose to give.

Try enabling v-sync. An LCD can only display 60fps, when the computer outputs more, the frames are combined w/ each other. *this is called tearing* v-sync will drop your fps to 60 but should really smooth things out. Also enable things like Anti Alaising, and Antiscopic filtering inside the nvidia control panel. And run the game at max resolution. 1440x900. If you wanna keep details down that's fine. But I'm willing to bet the engine wasn't designed to run at such a high fps.

With the framerates you have now, SLI isn't going to make a difference. (you most likely cpu locked) I would even remove the overclocks as a last resort. the q6600 is more then fast enough for CS.

With your setup I would assume your having a software problem over a hardware one. With the specs that you mentioned you should easily be able to handle counter strike source. Are your frames dropping in game? and do you have an anti virus program installed? And is the lag constant or routine at a constant interval.

Also have you checked your memory usage while playing? you shouldn't have a problem unless you have an excessive amount of programs running in the background.

Have you tried PsyKhiqZero's suggestion of V-sync? I dont want to talk it down but counterstrike doesn't have from what i know the problem that he talked about. I have an extremely high fps in that game with no problems with v-sync on or off.

Did you check your memory usage while in game just in case you are running over your 2 gigs which is highly unlikely?

Also i know you probably already have done this but do you have nvidia's latest drivers / windows latest updates all installed?

If you have nvidia's newest drivers in the 180.**'s series I'm highly recommending either installing 180.70 or something below the 180.**'s. Make sure you use Driver Sweeper found here:

http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

For driver suggestions(XTreme's modified drivers) :

Or if you feel like taking a chance on the newer 181.00:

Let me know if it helps =)

I used to run CS:S on highest settings at that rez, with an AMD 4800+x2 and an NVidia 8400. Whatever problems you're having isnt because of hardware. Infact I'm willing to bet that if you turn your graphics settings and rez to max, you'll either notice absolutely no difference, or it will fix the problem. (That is, if you use Vsinc)

If you do a quick search online you realize that others are having this exact same issue with your graphics card and its because of nvidia's latest driver set, use my recommendation and let me know how it works out. =)
