Current PC:
  • i7 3820
  • Noctua NH-D14 SE2011
  • EVGA gtx 1080 FTW 2
  • G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 16GB (4 x 4GB)
  • ASUS P9X79 DELUXE LGA 2011 Intel X79
  • CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W ATX12V
  • ACER Nitro VG240YP 144hz IPS 1080p Adaptive sync

Immediate purchase goal:

cpu
MB
RAM (16gb, 32gb if I can find a good deal)

Future purchase goal:

gtx 2080ti
1440p 144hz IPS monitor

I need advice on cpu/mb/ram combo to upgrade my current pc. I plan on using my current gpu, power supply, and cpu cooler. Noctua will send me mounting brackets for any new cpu I end up buying. I'll mainly be using my pc to play games, with the occasional coding project.

Even though I'm currently playing at 1080p, in the coming months I will be getting a gtx 2080ti and a high end 1440p IPS 144hz monitor. Ram should have enough clearance to fit with noctua cooler.
I don't have a intel/amd preference. I just want something that will last me 7 years, like my current cpu has done.

Here you go. Not worth the money IMO with the current AMD options. I have a 9900k and Aurous Master and love them but if I was buying today it would be the AMD 3900x.

(The Compatibility Warning is because of lack of cooler you already have, socket is LGA 1151)

This is the lower end Intel equivalent CPU from the first suggestion.

Or, you can do as i did, get some of the best parts available:

Awesome, thank you for the suggestions. Looks like I'm going to have a hard time choosing between the i9 9900k and Ryzen 9 3900X. I can stretch my budget for either of the options.

As i already said i am vouching for Intel, though you might find the 3900X better for multitasking and so on, but if for gaming the 9900k offers more or less the same performance.
