I cannot determine what exactly I should replace first in my current RIG.

Hopefully, I won't need an entire new computer.

I got the 34" monitor.

Specs:

-Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card
-(processor) AMD FX-8320 Vishera 3.5GHz (4.0GHz Turbo) Socket A
-Major Brand 1TB 7200 RPM Internal Hard Drive
-(power supply) GENERIC PS-132-103 800W 80 PLUS Certified
-(Motherboard) MSI 760GM-P34 (FX) AM3+ AMD 760G Micro ATX AMD
-ZALMAN CNPS7000V(AL)-1-PWM 92mm FSB (Fluid Shield
-8GB RAM

My motherboard does not have SLI support, so I know that's definitely one thing I need to replace.

Everyone says 2 GTX 970 SLI cards work really good for 4k graphics. So I'd need to replace the 760 video card as well?

And the processor seems okay, it's just a mismatch of AMD processor (with nvidia card). But I'm not 100% sure if I should stick with that mismatch --- or just get a new processor too.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

4k gaming requires high end graphics, really. You're looking at a 980 Ti or Fury X. Which will require you to get a better power supply. Most people Crossfire and SLI for 4k gaming at playable frames. you do need a beast pc to be frank.

not sure how 8320 would perform at 4k

Are you saying a total of two 980 Ti or Fury X, or just one? Yeah I'm not sure about the processor either, seems like it'd work. And the motherboard needs to be replaced for the SLI slots...

So that's a definite replace on: motherboard, and graphics card, so far that much is certain.

Thanks

A GTX 980 ti or two 970's could do, but two GTX 980's would be much better. So, yeah, a motherboard upgrade for sure. Not sure about the processor, but overclocking it (especially if you can water cool it) might do. You might also want to upgrade the RAM as well. Not gonna lie, 4K gaming is tough. Here are some links that can show you exactly what you need for it:

Thanks for the replies.

From what I've gathered from the replies, these are my best options:

-Go YOLO and get a new computer all together (aimed for SLI dual cards.)

-The cheaper, more practical option: Get a one single GTX 980ti, maybe add a cooling unit to the processor to overclock it, upgrade the RAM to 16GB, keep the rugged yet doable motherboard (if no need for SLI), and get a better PSU.

(The goal is for fluidity within the 3440x1440 resolution. Maybe one 980ti can do this?)

Well, that's what I'm thinking. But is it reasonable?

Wait, I'm confused about something. Is 3440x1440 or 2560x1440 considered 4K resolution? I don't think my 34" monitor goes higher than that... Hmm.. Or is the max res determined by my video card?

so confusing
