Hey, current specs are:

CPU - Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor

RAM - Corsair Vengeance 8GB \\(2 x 4GB\\) DDR3-1600

Motherboard - ASUSTeK Computer INC P8H61-M LE/USB3 (LGA1155)

Graphics - Asus GeForce GTX 770 2GB DirectCU II Video Card

PSU - Extreme Power Plus 500W

I think the first upgrade I'm looking to do is purchase a GTX 1060 6GB but I'm kind of stuck on where/what else I can do. The build is quite old and I want to be able to play future releases like BF5, Fallout and Red Dead Redemption 2, as well as current games such as Far Cry 5 and The Witcher 3 smoothly.

Would it be worth upgrading/buying a new motherboard too?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, unfortunately my PC knowledge isn't the best :(

Solution
look at your cpu usage and gpu usage of your existing pc configuration.

if your gpu usage is high and cpu usage is low, gtx 1060 will give you a nice boost.

if your gpu usage is low and cpu usage is high, likely there is little gain.

if both of your gpu and cpu usage are high, you can some boost,

upgrading your platform to 8400 or higher will definitely help.
