Need help organizing/cleaning up storage

Probably pretty easy for some people...but im trying to clean up my storage devices a bit and im having trouble. I have a pretty new PC i built about 3 months ago, i have a SSD and a hard drive. When i download something to my hard drive it always saves to desktop with an icon. I want to have it so nothing go to my desktop ever (i want to keep it clean) and now after messing around trying to figure out things myself im making a mess of all my files and stuff. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated

"downloads" should not save to your desktop.
In whatever browser, you can designate whatever location you want.
