I'm building my first custom pc and need some help picking a mobo.
I've had an alienware x51 r3 for about 2 yrs now and its just not cutting it. prob one of my worst purchases lol.
I was planning to just move the components to a new case with a new psu but realized that stupid dell didn't put a ATX power connecter on the mobo! so now i'm trying to find a nice mobo that supports all my hardware and won't break the bank...

what i have right now are:

i7-6700 cpu(non k) might upgrade to a k in the future
stock cpu heatsink
2 x 4gb DDR4 2133mhz OC to 2666mhz ram
2 TB barracuda HDD
evga supernova 750 GQ psu
Corsair Carbide 270R case
evga gtx 1060 sc gpu

new motherboard requirements:
m-ATX, ATX or m-ITX
cpu socket LGA 1151
usb 3.0 connecter
m.2 ssd slot
pci-e
ddr4 2133, 2666mhz compatible
minimum dual channel support

was looking at this mobo any suggestions?

also this is probably a stupid question but do i need a wireless adapter for wifi or does the mobo come with it? same for Ethernet.

also what is a nice cheap cpu cooler if needed?
and what chipset is best for my situation?

sry kinda nooby

You have locked cpu, don't need that Z270 MB... It comes with ethernet, no wifi. My recommendation for you:

Considering the price (in CAD) that board is a good value for a Z series. You'd basically get the same even if you spent a little more up to a certain point.

Good cheap coolers are Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO and Cryorig H7.

As long as you know that you wont' see any performance increase from a new motherboard, only from any extra features that it comes with. Some people might try and talk you out of it, but I personally can't blame you because it would be frustrating knowing I couldn't buy a better quality power supply than what Dell makes for their motherboards.

Btw, what power supply did your system come with? and what other parts (besides the obvious case and PSU) did you upgrade already?

*And how do you have your RAM OC'd without a motherboard?

That mobo leaves no room for RAM increase upgrade or RAM OC to 2666MHz.

Sorry but I was looking at the supply for the store near my area and they don't have it in stock also looked at the supported ram frequency and and it only supports 2400mhz... is there another alternative? also i mentioned that i might be upgrading the cpu in the future and that board doesn't support oc

Solution

the alienware x51 comes with a external 330w psu with a 6 pin to dc power adapter, theres no actual atx power connector.

the motherboard from the alienware x51 before disassembly, i check in the bios and the only 2 ram freq. were 2133 and 2666. or does that make a difference?

this seems like a pretty good option! thank you i'll keep this in mind. but i'd still like to see what others say too.
