I will admit, I don't know much about SSD's except for its obvious function, so I don't know if it's possible for SSD's to be incompatible with a computer. With that said, I would also like to pick out an SSD on Amazon for relatively cheap (around the ~$50 - $60 range). Could somebody help me out? Let me know if there's anything you need to know about my computer.

Thanks!

It is possible to for an ssd to be incompatible with a computer for several reasons. First, the computer may be an older model that does not fully support modern 3rd generation solid state drives. In addition, we now have several types of ssd's - Standard 2.5 inch, mSATA, PCIe, and M.2 NGFF.

Do you have a desktop pc or a mobile pc? If it is a desktop pc please post the brand and model number of the motherboard. If it is a mobile pc please post the brand and model number of the pc.

For desktop pc's I normally recommend Samsung solid state drives. They perform exceptionally well and have a proven track record. Crucial, SanDisk, and Intel are also worth considering. However, with a tight budget of $50.00 to $60.00, you'll probably be more interested in an entry level ssd - something like the Kingston SSDNow V300 or the SanDisk Ultra Plus 128GB ssd's.

I maintain the ssd database listed in a sticky at the very top of this forum section. Here is the link:

Scroll down to the Kingston or SanDisk sections or any other brand you are interested in and follow the links to the technical reviews.

Thank you for the reply!

This is the motherboard I'm currently using: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130584

I'll be sure to check out that website and those brands. Thanks!
