Yes it should have new enough chipset so that you can get drivers for it that support windows 7.

There are no drivers for the system for Win 7 from Gateway. Sometimes Vista drivers will work, sometimes Win 7 will automatically detect the hardware or though Windows Update, sometimes you can find the right drivers from the chip vendor (motherboard, sound card vendor, video card vendor etc.. rather than Gateway).

If you try, make a drive image of your system or just put in a new hard drive so if Win 7 does not work right, you can go back to the old OS.

Maybe you can replace this motherboard with a newer gateway motherboard and if you do this you would have windows 7 running smooth on your pc with all drivers
