Hello everyone ive been tearing my hair out trying to work out whether my new components are compatiable with each other and my old ones i have next to basic computer knowledge and am still trying to work out what all the acronyms and specifications mean:-

CPU: Intel core 2 duo E7300
Mobo: Asus P5k SE (thinking of buying an MSi P45 Neo-F instead)
RAM: 4GB of OCZ PC2 8500 1066Mhz (2F10664GK)
Graphics: Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS
Sound card: CREATIVE Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio

Will this work?

The P45 chipset is a pretty solid choice and will work with an E7300. The P35 would work as well, but is an older model. Unless you're really trying to overclock heavily and know you need it, going over PC2 6400 DDR2 800 isn't necessary. 4GB of DDR2-800 from any decent brand would do. The 8800GTS 512 is a decent card, depending on what games you'd want to play, but has been pretty much replaced by the similar 9800 series. ATI is probably currently the best performance for the dollar as well, depending on your budget. Most gamers use onboard sound, but a separate sound card is still option for people who really want it.

I'd recommend posting again with more information on your budget and expected uses and see if you get more help. You still need drives, PSU, a case and a monitor to consider.

The most 'forgotten' components is probably the foundation to solid PC:
POWER SUPPLY:
I'd recommend a single 12v rail with a high Amp:
CORSAIR TX750 - stability and efficiency, under load.
Don't buy cheap - quality and heavy.
Also, IMO, place the PSU at the base of a case, away from the MB.
