Hi guys, I've run into a problem I can't seem to handle myself and would really appreciate your help.

In short, I'm wondering of I can recover/reinstall windows 8.1 from the $Windows.~tmp folder that was created during a windows 8.1 to windows 10 upgrade.

Unfortunately I have no recovery partition or discs or windows.old folder. I've taken a look in the folder and it seems to contain a system image file as well as drivers etc. Can I somehow use this image to reinstall windows? I'm currently running windows 8.1 on the tablet, I found a shady download of the OS and have activated it but it's not working out great and I'm not happy with it for the long term.

More info: I was trying to clean install windows 10 onto my tablet, however that didn't go so smoothly as I ran into activation issues as I may have installed the wrong edition or didn't activate properly after my win10 upgrade was complete, and I deleted all the partitions on my tablet so no recovery or roll back options. I've managed to install windows 8.1 single language with bing back onto the tablet and activate it, however it was from a shady source and I'm not happy with it. If I could somehow reinstall windows from the tmp folder on my external hard disk that would be amazing. I tried using the recover from image option but it doesn't detect the image from the external HD. I've also tried copying and pasting the image onto a USB drive which also didn't get detected. I'm thinking the image may need to be located in a specific folder to be detected?

Thanks so much for your time, please let me know if I'm missing any info that would be useful

In short, no.

Go to the microsoft website and download the Windows 8.1 version of the Media Creation Tool. You can make your own install (recovery) media with that. NEVER download Windows installers from anywhere other than the Microsoft websites.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately Microsoft doesn't provide an iso for my version of windows, Windows 8.1 with bing, and the OEM is of no help. Any idea where I might find a trustworthy copy?

I've tried that with no luck, single language with bing is different from single language and its not available from Microsoft.
Here are the files I'm left with by the way, I guess I should have posted this earlier.
