I have a Lenovo Thinkcentre e73, the power supply appears to be http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Lenovo-Thinkcentre-E73-180W-Power-Supply-54Y8871-/172039074322
and the specs on it are i7 4790s with iGpu Intel HD graphics 4600 16gb ram, I've been looking at both the GTX 960 and low profile GTX 1050 Ti for replacement but if I get a GTX 960 I need to get a PSU that has the right connectors for the GTX 960 so 1x6 pin? So what I'm looking for but can't seem to find is a PSU for 400-500w, with the dimensions of the 180w std from my Lenovo, and 1x6pin connector to the new gpu? The other question I have is for GTX 1050 Ti do I need to upgrade my PSU or motherboard or will it run as is?

Update: so I did some digging and I found that the type of PSU I'd need would have to be a TFX, so the new question is would something like the psu here: http://www.bequiet.com/en/powersupply/496 be enough to work with the low profile gtx 1050 Ti Gpu?

You will need a new PSU. 180w is not enough for an i7-4790s, GTX 1050 Ti and other system components.

As for which card to get. The performance of the two is practically identical. However, the 1050 Ti uses less energy and uses an up to date architecture. The 1050 Ti is usually cheaper as well. So, I would buy the GTX 1050 Ti. However, at the price of a GTX 1050 Ti. You are very close to a far superior Radeon Rx 470 4GB.

I have a concern though. That PSU you linked is not ATX. Is your Lenovo E73 the full size mini tower desktop model or is it the Small Form Factor (SFF) model? If it is the SFF model. You must find a low-profile GPU. You will also have to find a PSU which fits. Otherwise you will have to buy a new case. Which is a better option from an upgrade perspective. As it will make the task of finding power supplies and video cards far easier.

this is the case so SFF, I forgot to put it on the post but I do plan on upgrading with a low profile gtx 1050 ti, good tips, basically all I need is a good enough PSU to fit the old ones dimensions now
Edit: the PSU is definitely not an ATX yeah, I did some digging I think it's a Tfx? or atleast the dimensions look alike

It certainly appears to be TFX. Measure it. As long as the new one fits with the fan in the correct orientation. It should work. If the mount holes are off a little. You can just drill some new ones. But everything looks right. Here are some TFX units from traditionally high quality PSU manufacturers.

Solution

It's been a 2 years for me with the Lenovo Thinkcentre E73 Mini Tower Model and I've recently been considering upgrading my GPU. My original configuration are of the following specifications:
i5-4440S 2.80GHz
6 GB RAM
Nvidia Zotac GT 610
Default 180W Lenovo PSU (which came when I bought the setup as a whole)
And the rest miscellaneous components like HDD and such..

So recently, I bought an Nvidia GTX 960 4GB without considering the other involved factors. Upon further searching, I found that the PSU must be atleast of 450W to comfortably run the given configuration with a replacement of the GT 610 with the GTX 960. When I went to the tech shops, they told me that the Lenovo Thinkcentre case is such that you need to get a PSU from a Lenovo Supplier itself and that no other regular options would fit in the case (such as Corsair/Silverstone/Thermaltake/etc). Another tech said that said regular PSUs would have different screw threads that wouldn't allow the PSU to screwed into place, if you managed to get the PSU to fit in the first place.
My question is whether these proposed issues are true, as I am skeptical that they are. Also, please let me know further solutions apart from buying a new case. Thanks

No, you are not going to fit a standard ATX unit in that case. Which is why I linked the oddball TFX units. Which may or may not fit. Which is why you would need to measure. For instance I don’t know if a rectangular unit will fit or if yours has a custom notch placement. Based on pictures I found a rectangular unit should fit. I don't know if the measurements are a match.

The FSP group lists measurements of 3.35 x 6.89 x 2.76 inches.

Small form factor cases have all sorts of proprietary issues. Even if you buy a new case. The motherboard may or may not use a standardized form factor and mounting holes. If it is not standardized. You will be modding the case to get It to work.

Also the motherboard may not use standard power connectors. Even if the PSU fits. It may not connect. I found a link for a 14 to 24 pin adapter on eBay. Making me think the E73 needs one.

The thing is it's not a Small Form Factor case, it's a Mini Tower case. Moreover, the 180W PSU provided here is of the same measurements as 150mm X 140mm X 86mm for the dimensions.
What is the best solution to my issue? Thanks
