Need help removing backplate (images included)

So I bought a P8Z77-M motherboard second hand, and it included an i7-2600 with a cpu cooler (it looked more like the lga1156 stock cooler than the lga1155 one though).

I'm trying to install a Hyper 212 Plus, but the backplate attached to the motherboard is in the way. I think it may be attached with adhesive; I read a load of threads here about removing adhesive backplates but everyone else's looks different? Like the cpu rivet things are in this backplate. If I heat it and push/pull the backplate off, will it damage the underside of the cpu assembly?

I doubt that it's glued on. Although it's not impossible. I think more likely it's screwed on via the 3 screws surrounding the CPU bracket. Those look like they took a terrific beating, especially the single screw on the right of the last two images. It looks slightly stripped.

Unfortunately, I have no experience with that type of back-plate/cooler - I'm not even sure it's "stock"

Thanks Karsten! It turns out it was screwed on with the 3 screws around the CPU socket like you said. I unscrewed them with a hex wrench (they were really stripped so it took ages) and the backplate dropped off.

I sawed the legs off, sanded down the edges and the Hyper 212 backplate fits perfect now. (http://imgur.com/AaypJVx)
