Need help repairing my monitor situation.

I have a custom built computer my friend made and have been using it for almost a year. Around four months ago I bought a new Dell monitor. About a week ago the monitor began blinking. On checking the net I found a solution that worked which was reducing the brightness and contrast by about 30%. Soon this had to increase to 40%,50%,etc. until a point where the brightness was zero and the contrast was just low enough so that I could see. But now it is completely black always and doesn't blink I cant see anything. Please help me fix it.

How long is the warranty on your Dell? I suggest you contact Dell Support.

Warranty is valid. But just needed advice confirming if its the monitor problem or the computer's.
