Need help replacing a gpu.

Ok so I've been getting repeated reboots when trying to play games on my Nvidia Geforce GTX 770. As I've only had it for about two weeks I'm sending it back for a refund.

I will therefore be looking for a replacement card. The games I play are wow and eso so a if you feel a downgrade of gpu will still be good enough for these games or even games that are just being released to play at full graphics then that's fine.

My current system looks like this,

Motherboard, Asus Maximus VI Hero
Cpu, Intel i7 4770k running at 3.5 Ghz
Psu XFX 850W Black edition.
RAM 16GB

Maybe you just got unlucky and got a broken card so why not send for replacement?

I agree with rolli59, I'd get another 770 or better. It'd be a shame to pair that good setup with anything LESS than a 770.

I'm just a little nervous about the same problem arising, everytime I would start the game on high graphics, the higher the graphics the sooner my problem happens. My monitor would go into power saving mode and then my pc would later reboot, it isn't overheating problem. I've looked online and there seems to be lots of problems with this card, but maybe that's the same on all cards.

You were probably unlucky to get a defective card (which shouldn't happen twice in a row) or there are other software/hardware issues. I'd try again with a replacement before considering a downgrade if they exchange it for free.

New cards come with warranty (normally 2-3 years) so the exchange should be free through RMA.

It isn't, I checked on core temp.

Well Im Quite sure it's card that it is at fault, I used my old gtx 550 to card and put it on full settings, I had lag but I didn't get power saving mode and a reboot.

I've read a lot about faults with that card and fault with the drivers etc.

It's a newly built pc so no.

If you still have the drivers from your old card install I'd start by uninstalling them before putting in the new card. Start fresh basically.

It's a new pc, I built it myself with new parts, there was no old card.... It's from a different pc.

Both being Nvidia cards sort of confirms the new one is faulty, not driver issues.

Just curious, what temp did the GPU get to? Did you also check the CPU temp? Probably not it, but doesn't hurt to check.

Also, there is no mass problem with 770's. Just send it in for an RMA. Or return it and get a different 770. There is no sense in getting a different kind of card. You probably just got unlucky, as others have said.

The temp for the card when in use was less than 50C and the cpu was like 30C

Ok I bought my card off amazon but it was from some German company, I've already asked for a return and I'm waiting on an email back to confirm if I can return it.

Oh, I see. However you did in fact say you used an old card so I assumed the 770 was a replacement. There no compatibility issue here. RMA it and try the new card.

Yeah, I would see what the RMA process looks like since you didn't buy it directly from Amazon or Newegg. It may be easier to RMA it through Asus than to deal with returning it to a 3rd part through amazon.
