Need help setting up a home network pls!!!

Hi there everyone!!!

Okay, first off I am pretty new regarding networking and setup..

Anyways, I have a desktop tower PC, which I would like to use as my home network for music, movies, documents to be accessible through any internet.. so I have been looking through everything, on line like crazy which I have not got a straight answer.

Can someone please step me through the process and with diagram, on how to set this up?? Also I have Shaw advance modem .. and the location of it is in a bedroom with lots of shelf space...
