Hi,

I built a PC around just over 4 years ago with the help from my brother but the graphics card has just died so i thought i may as well give it an upgrade.

I have my eye on a few bits but i'm not sure if they will all work together or if they'll work with my current PSU.

I'm thinking of buying the following:

GTX970
i7 4790K
ASUS Z97 MAXIMUS VII RANGER Motherboard
ARCTIC Cooling Freezer 13 (Do i need this if i don't plan to OC?)

Could anyone recommend some RAM? There's that many different kinds i'm not sure what to get. I was looking to get 16GB.

My PSU is an Antec Truepower TP-750 Blue.

My Tower is an Antec 1200 V3

Any suggestions would be welcome. I've really lost touch with this kind of stuff.

RAM is RAM is RAM. As long as it's compatible (240 pin), you won't notice any difference between them. Sure they'll run at slightly different timings (lower is better), but you won't notice. Also, the speed (MHz) they're listed as... that's the maximum "stable" speed that the manufacturer recommends for that particular product, it doesn't mean that your RAM will run at that speed without messing with your BIOS. That board you're planning on will most likely boot any RAM at 1600MHz, and if you want it to run higher you just need to enable XMP in the BIOS. But again... you won't notice any difference with RAM speed.

Thanks. Yes, i'll still be using a 1TB western digital black from 4 years ago for now. I was looking at SSD's but they're still a bit too expensive for me at the moment and i'm just looking to replace as little as possible.

I hadn't considered that but it looks good and would save me money so i would go with it. I've also found a deal for Gibabyte GA-Z97X Gaming 7 for roughly the same price as the Z97-A. Would you take the Z97-A over the Gaming 7?
