Need help switching to a new monitor on my PC

So I have been working on this all day but no luck. So I had a sylvania tv as my monitor for my Lenovo k450. That tv was a piece of junk so the resolution was way down. I have a Vizio tv that works pretty well as a monitor so I decided to use that, so I put the resolution up to where it has to be to run the Vizio. But when I plug the HDMI into the Vizio, the Vizio just says "not support" yet it still works on the sylvania. I think my main question is how to make the Vizio "screen 1"

its a tower, and the video card is made by NVIDIA. its a gtx635 (i need to get a new one soon)

Really no resolution is working on the vizio. I'm trying to use 1920x1080 i think… but lower resolutions didnt work either.

1920x1080 but i think the problem is that for display in display settings it says sylvaina i want to make screen 1 the vizio.

no the vizio doesn't show up at all because i never have them both plugged in at the same time cause my computer only has one hdmi port and i don't have a VGA cord. But when i plug the vizio into the computer and it says "not support, it might be showing the vizio as #1 or #2 but i can't tell cause i can't get the display to show on the vizio.

The video card has a hdmi and a vga and both tv' have an hdmi and a vga

Yes I ordered a vga to hdmi adapter in the mail it will be here tomorow. Do you think it will solve the problem?

its the second one but i also bought a hdmi male to hdmi female cord.

2nd adapter is not going to work as the vga ports on the vizio & videocard are already female. the hdmi ports on both are also female. the end result is you need a vga male to a hdmi male for it to work.

but my computer has a male vga and the adapter is a female vga (so it will fit into the video card) to a male hdmi. Then i bought a female hdmi to male hdmi cord, so the female end can go into the male end of the adapter, and then i plug the hdmi cord into the tv...

cords are males & computer\cards are female. think man & woman & you'll see what I mean. you have the meanings in reverse so it should work ok.

Okay I just picked up a vga cable...
What should I do now?

Edit: okay so the screen works using a vga now, but with hdmi it has the same problem...

plug the hdmi into the Vizio & the vga into the Sylvania. in display settings in control panel, click on the "change display settings" on left hand side of screen. click on the "detect" tab. post results.

okay so the screen works using a vga now, but with hdmi it has the same problem...
